Calibration procedure

Example for tdcftof1 (v1290's only):

  • save original compensation tables and make saved files read-only:
ssh clasrun@tdcftof1
cd $CODA/src/rol/compensation_original/
c1190ReadCompensationTable 0x11180000 tdcftof1_slot03.txt
c1190ReadCompensationTable 0x11300000 tdcftof1_slot06.txt
c1190ReadCompensationTable 0x11480000 tdcftof1_slot09.txt
c1190ReadCompensationTable 0x11680000 tdcftof1_slot13.txt
chmod 400 *
  • make sure that trigger file TDC_CALIB/tdcftof123456_calib.trg has following setting:
TDC1190_COMPENSATION 0
  • start runcontrol, choose CODA config 'tdcftof1', trigger file TDC_CALIB/tdcftof123456_calib.trg, take 500K events
  • create designated directory for tdcftof1 and go there
mkdir tdcftof1; cd tdcftof1
  • process data file:
c1190compensation tdcftof1_000030.evio.0

it will produce new compensation tables

compensation_slot03.txt
compensation_slot06.txt
compensation_slot09.txt
compensation_slot13.txt

and histograms for every channel in file

htdc.pdf

look at histograms to make sure it looks reasonable

  • load compensation files into tdc boards:
c1190WriteCompensationTable 0x11180000 compensation_slot03.txt 1
c1190WriteCompensationTable 0x11300000 compensation_slot06.txt 1
c1190WriteCompensationTable 0x11480000 compensation_slot09.txt 1
c1190WriteCompensationTable 0x11680000 compensation_slot13.txt 1
  • type 'vme_sysreset'
  • calibration complete; to check it, modify trigger file changing
TDC1190_COMPENSATION 0

to

TDC1190_COMPENSATION 1

then take data again, run

c1190compensation tdcftof1_000030.evio.0

and look at htdc.pdf file, all distributions must be +-1 or so aroung zero

Test results : Calibration VX1290A with DSC2

TDC Outputs from JLAB VME Discriminators DSC2 were Inputs for CAEN VX1290A.

Width of TDC Outputs changed from 4 ns to 40 ns.

Histograms present distributions for four CAEN VX1290A TDCs in each run

Test was done in Counting room VME crate "croctest2"

  • In run # 10491 four VX1290A with Ser. ## 56, 60, 53, 55 were tested, TDCs were in slots 7, 8, 9, 10 correspondingly:

1290.Ser.56.60.53.55_10491.pdf

1290.Ser.56.60.53.55_10491.ps

  • Run # 10493, four VX1290A, Ser. ## 49 34 39 37 in slots ## 7 8 9 10:

1290.Ser.49.34.39.37_10493.pdf

Tests of CAEN TDCs VX1290N with NIM inputs

TDC Outputs from JLAB VME Discriminators DSC2 were converted on ECL-to-NIM translator and were used as Inputs for CAEN VX1290N. CAEN TDCs VX1290N and JLAB VME Discriminators DSC2 were tested in Counting room, in VME crate "croctest2".

Width of TDC Outputs changed from 4 ns to 40 ns.

Histograms suppose to present distributions for four CAEN VX1290N TDCs in each run, but in run 10514 only three VX1290N were tested. In run 10516 - fourth TDC with Ser.28 was not visible in crate, something wrong with setting of base address.

  • In run # 10514 three VX1290N with original firmware v.0.5 and Ser. ## 22, 23, 24 were tested, TDCs were in slots 7, 8, 9 correspondingly:

1290n.Ser.22.23.24.00_10514.pdf

1290n.Ser.22.23.24.00_10514.ps

  • Run # 10516 for four VX1290N with firmware v.0.6, Ser. ## 25 29 31 28 - slots ## 7 8 9 10, Ser.28 - had a problem, not visible in crate:

1290n.Ser.25.29.31.28_10516.pdf

1290n.Ser.25.29.31.28_10516.ps

  • Firmware changed to v.0.6 for Ser. 22, 23 and 24. Address Cards were changed for Ser.28, now VX1290N Ser.28 PBCM0044 is visible in crate.

So, in run # 10520 four VX1290N with firmware v.0.6 and Ser. ## 22, 23, 24, 28 were tested, TDCs were in slots 7, 8, 9, 10 correspondingly:
