Ben could not come, Ben's email 09-09-2008 contains current status of his development. Ben will be done soon, we need to concentrate on hardware/wiring and timing.

Sf-to-FC cable: we can use existing ribbon cable, run new ribbon cable straight or use fast coaxial cable(s). We'll measure different options, then we'll discuss coaxial cable's option with Ben, order connectors, make and run new cables if necessary.
