Cacti requires MySQL, PHP, RRDTool, net-snmp, and a webserver that supports PHP such as Apache.

  • untar cacti tarball in /www creating directory
/www/cacti-0.8.7d
  • add following to the Apache httpd.conf:
###sergey: for CACTI
Alias /cacti "/www/cacti-0.8.7d/"
<Directory "/www/cacti-0.8.7d/">
  Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
  AllowOverride None
  Order allow,deny
  Allow from all
</Directory>
  • configure mysql:
Create database:
   mysqladmin -h clondb1 -u root -p create cacti
Import the default cacti database:
   mysql -h clondb1 -u root -p cacti < cacti.sql
Create a MySQL username and password for Cacti:
   mysql -h clondb1 -u root -p mysql
   mysql> GRANT ALL ON cacti.* TO cactiuser@clonweb IDENTIFIED BY 'cloncacti';
   mysql> flush privileges;
   mysql> exit;
Edit include/config.php and specify the database type,
name, host, user and password for your Cacti configuration:
   $database_type = "mysql";
   $database_default = "cacti";
   $database_hostname = "clondb1";
   $database_username = "cactiuser";
   $database_password = "cloncacti";
